Dinosaurs: Still A Mystery

Dinosaurs are the biggest mystery of the earth. History of these creatures has kept hidden so any secrets inside itself. Study of these huge creatures is called Paleontology. They used to live in the earth a long time ago. They were the hugest creatures on the earth over 100 feet long and up to 50 feet tall but there were some who were as small as chicken. Amazingly blue whales are found bigger than any dinosaurs found till today date. These creatures lived for a very long time and ruled our earth. Paleontological observations have been documented that the last dinosaur died about 65 million years ago.

You will be surprised to know that there were more than hundreds of species of dinosaurs. Dinosaur’s age is divided into three major groups the Triassic period, Jurassic period and Cretaceous periods. The studies say that the first dinosaurs were near the end of the Triassic period.
All dinosaurs were not non vegetarian. Most of the dinosaurs were vegetarian and these are called herbivores. They used to eat plants and leaves of the tree. These dinosaurs were peaceful in nature.

Scientists are still not sure about the color of these mystery creatures. Few think that these were as colorful as the birds are.

Paleontologists are still confused about the first dinosaurs. Part of a huge skeleton was uncovered former in Montana in 1902 and later another was found in Wyoming. After studying the bones of the skeleton and analyzing the fossils the American paleontologist Henry Fairfield Osborn cast the first pictures of dinosaurs. Henry named them Tyrannosaurus Rex which means 'king of the tyrant reptiles' as they were the biggest meat - eating dinosaur known at that time to have lived on our Earth.

Scientists in Argentina, South America, have also claimed that they have found the world's oldest dinosaur and they named it Herrarasaurus. It is said that they were 230 million years old.

Studies say that these huge creatures also had accidents sometimes as the fractures have been found in few of the fossils.

Study of these amazing creatures is not only important for understanding the causes behind past major extinctions of land animals but also for understanding the changes in biological diversity caused by previous geological and climatic changes happened on the Earth as these changes are still occurring now a days.

Although a lot has been discovered recently about dinosaurs by our paleontologists, but still there are lots of secrets lying behind about our planet and its ancient inhabitants.
